I know that you were promised a new post over a week ago, but as I am sure you are very aware…sometimes…life happens.
We have been pretty busy over the last several days. For those of you who do not know, we have been coaching/managing a girls youth competitive soccer team since Fall 2016. Well, here in Texas, soccer is pretty much a year long sport, and it keeps our life very dynamic, especially since Scott is also a referee. Last weekend, we took the girls to tournament in McKinney, TX, and Scott also refereed several games in the tournament from Friday thru Sunday (yes on Super Bowl Sunday), in addition to coaching five games. We played our three scheduled games, and we won two and lost one, but we made it to the semi-finals!! The first game of the semi-finals we were up against the team that we lost to (4-3)… the girls were ready this time, and we won that game 3-1 which set us up for the finals that would be played at 6:30PM. I know what you American football fans are thinking… but…the Super Bowl! Several of us headed over to 54th Street Grill for some snacks and the Super Bowl Pre-Game Festivity watching. So we got a little bit of the Super Bowl fun in before our big game.
Our final game of the tournament was indeed a big game. At the end of the first half, we were tied 0 -0. In the second half, the opposing team scored first, and our girls were a little deflated at that point, but we cheered them on, and encouraged them to not give up, and they didn’t. In the last seconds of the game we scored on a Corner Kick. Note that I said on a Corner Kick. See the video below, it was amazing.
That goal tied up the game and we headed into a 10 minute OT period and both teams scored again… tied!! That meant we went to PKs (Penalty Kicks). Each team chose 5 players (that are already on the field) and each player gets their turn to take a shot on the goalkeeper for the opponent. It is very intense. This was the first time our team has ever had to do this. At the end of the 10 kicks…guess what…still tied!! Are you kidding me??? LOL! So then the remaining players on the field take shots one at a time, switching from one team to next… if they both make/miss, we keep going….we went first, and scored. The other team shot and our goalkeeper stopped it like a boss! We won!! 3-2!! Tournament Champions! Best game ever!! We are super excited for our team and for the girls!! They played 5 games in two days and they were wore out!!! We all were wore out!! But it was totally worth it!!
Edited to add: My rendition of the story, according to “detail oriented Scott”, is not exactly how it happened, my timing of everything was a tad off…but the outcome of the game is still the same. I am detail oriented, I just remember things slightly different 😉
So that is what we have been up to as of late. Scott has been refereeing and I have been working…and recovering from last weekend! We will be going to the Dallas RV Super Show next weekend, and we plan on taking lots of photos and videos of our day! Let us know if you are coming! Stay tuned, we will be posting more soon.
